YOGA IN SCHOOL- VRIKSHASANA & VAJRASANA

 28/01/2026

In yoga, Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) and Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose) are two fundamental postures that offer unique benefits for both physical stability and mental focus.

Vrikshasana (Tree Pose)

Vrikshasana is a standing balance pose that mimics the steady, rooted nature of a tree. To perform it, you stand on one leg while placing the sole of the other foot against your inner thigh or calf (avoiding the knee). Your hands are typically held in a prayer position at the chest or stretched upward like branches.

  • Benefits: It significantly improves balance and posture. Physically, it strengthens the ankles, calves, and thighs while stretching the hips and chest.

  • Mental Impact: Because it requires a steady gaze (Drishti), it is excellent for enhancing concentration and calming a restless mind.

Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose)

Vajrasana is a kneeling pose where you sit back on your heels with your back straight and hands resting on your knees. Unlike most yoga poses, this is one of the few that can be practiced shortly after a meal.

  • Benefits: It is famously known for aiding digestion and relieving stomach gas. It also strengthens the pelvic muscles and keeps the spine aligned.

  • Mental Impact: It is an ideal pose for meditation and breathing exercises (Pranayama) because it keeps the body stable and the mind steady without much effort.
