Second Semester B.Ed. Field Trip Travelogue @ Vagamon - June 11, 2025
Second Semester B.Ed. Field Trip Travelogue: Vagamon & Paruthumpara
On June 12, 2025, the "Pedagogiezz" (B.Ed. Batch 2024-2026) of Peet Memorial Training College embarked on an educational and adventurous field trip to the misty heights of Vagamon and Paruthumpara. Organized by student coordinators Sefon Sanu Mathew and Joyal Joseph, the group was accompanied by faculty members Dr. Sony Mary Varghese, Dr. Mumtas S., and Dr. Velayudhan T. Nair.
The Journey Begins
The trip commenced from the college campus at 5:25 am following a prayer by Joyal Joseph. Traveling via a scenic route through Pathanamthitta and Ranni, the group picked up fellow students at various stations including Pandalam and Peerumede. After a hearty breakfast in Mundakayam, the team reached their first major destination in the high altitudes.
Exploring the Pine Valley and Kurishumala
By 12:45 pm, the group arrived at Pine Valley (Kolahalamedu). Known for its majestic rows of pine trees and cool refuge, the forest offered a sharp contrast to Kerala's typical tropical greenery. After exploring the slopes and capturing the serene landscape, the team moved on to Vagamon Kurishumala, also known as "Kondaketty Mala."
Situated at approximately 3,000 feet, Kurishumala provided a blend of spiritual introspection and physical challenge. The group undertook a 1.2 km rocky trek featuring 14 stations of the cross. While 13 students successfully reached the summit, others enjoyed the misty tea garden views from various points along the trail.
Sunsets at the Meadows
The final stop of the day was the Vagamon Meadows (Mottakkunnu), arriving at 5:14 pm. These vast, undulating green hills, famous as a film shooting location, provided a spellbinding view of the sunset. In a moment of unity, students and teachers formed a large circle on the meadows, enjoying the cool breeze and the iconic "yellow frame" photo spot before departing at 6:07 pm.
Conclusion of the Trip
The return journey included a dinner stop at Erumeli. As the bus reached Pandalam, Dr. Sony Mary Varghese delivered a vote of thanks, reflecting on the day's experiences. The excursion officially concluded at the college at 11:04 pm with a final prayer, marking a successful chapter in the batch's academic and social journey.
